As taught in the New Testament, the Fishers church of Christ is led by elders (1 Timothy 5:17), who act as shepherds of the spiritual flock. Elders are also called pastors (shepherds) and overseers (Acts 20:17,28). These men are selected by the local congregation on the basis of qualifications found in the Scriptures (Titus 1: 5-9 and 1 Timothy 3: 1-7). We are blessed to have four qualified individuals who serve as elders. 

According to the New Testament, the elders of a local church do not make the rules, but serve under the headship of Christ (1 Peter 5:1-4). They lead, guide, or supervise a local church in accordance with New Testament teaching. They teach and exhort the church in sound doctrine, and refute those who contradict the truth (Titus 1:9). Elders also lead by example (1 Peter 5:3). They are a part of God's plan to provide instruction for “the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ” (Ephesians 4:11-12).
